Scripture

Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? (1 Corinthians 3:16, ESV)

Thoughts

Some people have trouble understanding that the Holy Spirit is in each believer, but Jesus promised this. In our relationship with the Lord, it isn’t as if we only get Jesus and not the Holy Spirit. We don’t just have the Father and not the Holy Spirit. When the Spirit comes to dwell in us, it’s as if we have the Trinity within us because God is one.

God’s Word says that the Heavenly Father disciplines and sanctifies us, Jesus redeems us and justifies us, and the Holy Spirit guides us into truth, comforts us, and helps us.

In the gospel of John, Jesus tells us more about the Holy Spirit:

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. (John 14:16–17, ESV)

Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. (John 16:7, ESV)

Application

Since you have the Holy Spirit in you, how different is your response to your opponent in a conflict? Is there any difference in your response compared to the response of a person who does not have the Holy Spirit? For example, the Holy Spirit brings humility and reveals blind spots. Think of some differences the Holy Spirit has made in your life.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank you for giving me the Holy Spirit. I want to respond to his conviction. I want to let him work in me. . . . Continue praying.
