Peacemaker Ministries Devotional: A Very Good Creation

by P. Brian Noble / November 8, 2019

Scripture

And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And

there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. (Genesis 1:31, ESV)

Thoughts

God saw the creation “that he had made.” Think about this for a minute. He didn’t see a creation that had happened. He didn’t see creatures that evolved. He didn’t see a universe that had randomly exploded into being. He saw everything that he had made. Did God make junk that becomes something amazing? No, he made something amazing that humankind has turned into junk because of our sin. In Chapter 1 of Genesis, sin hadn’t yet entered into the world. God made an amazing creation and it was “very good.” Everything God creates is still very good. Did God create you and give you life?

Let’s look at Scripture:

For you formed my inward parts;

you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.

…I am fearfully and wonderful made. (Psalm 139:13, ESV

God knitted you together in your mother’s womb. Did you know that God could knit? Yep, he “knit” you! So, how well can he knit? He’s a great knitter, a brilliant knitter. You are not junk. No matter what this fallen world has done, you are fearfully and wonderfully formed by God. You also are a very good creation.

Application

The sinfulness of this world may have gotten you down. Don’t let that become a distraction from what God wants to do in your life. He knitted you together—he formed and shaped you—and everything God makes is very good. You may say, “Yes, but you don’t know what I did.” Regardless of what you did, confess it, receive God’s forgiveness, and press on to what God has for you. If you continue to let your past define you, you will never be able to let God define your future.

Prayer

Lord, you made me very well, but your Word says that sin has corrupted me. So I repent. I accept the gift of your forgiveness. Help me to see myself the way you see me now—forgiven and useful to you. Thank you.… (Continue praying.)
