What do I do? My spouse walked out on me!
I am very sorry. It is extremely painful when a spouse walks out on a marriage. If this has happened to you, you probably have a million and one questions running through your head.“What do I do?” “What do I say to my kids?” (Parents, church friends, etc. . . .)“How do I provide for myself?” “Will they come back?” “If they do come back, should I pretend that nothing happened?” “How can our relationship ever be restored?” All of these questions will need to be answered over time; for now let’s lay aside the questions. My hope is to comfort and encourage you. So, let’s look together at the path the Lord has invited us to follow.
Below is an insightful psalm that is a favorite of many people. Woven through it, the Path of a Peacemaker can be seen. Rather than giving a commentary, I hope you will let the word of God wash over you.
“O Lord, You have searched me and known me.” (Psalm 139:1, NASB)
The Path of a Peacemaker: He left, but God knows you.
“You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar.” (Verse2)
The Path of a Peacemaker: She left, but God understands you.
“You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and are intimately acquainted with all my ways.
Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold, O Lord, You know it all.” (Verses3-4)
The Path of a Peacemaker: He left, but God is intimately acquainted with your hurt and fears.
“You have enclosed me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is too high, I cannot attain to it.” (Verses5-6)
The Path of a Peacemaker: She left, but God surrounds you and His hand is on you.
“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the dawn, ifI dwell in the remotest part of the sea,
Even there Your hand will lead me, and Your right hand will lay hold of me.” (Verses7-10)
The Path of a Peacemaker: He left, but God’s Spirit is leading you.
“If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, and the light around me will be night,”
“Eventhe darkness is not dark to You, and the night is as bright as the day.
Darkness and light are alike to You.” (Verses11-12)
The Path of a Peacemaker: She left, but God is your light in the darkness.
“For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb.” (Verse13)
The Path of a Peacemaker: He left, but God formed you.
“I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in secret,
and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth.” (Verses14-15)
The Path of a Peacemaker: She left, but God wonderfully made you.
“Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were written
all the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.” (Verse16)
The Path of a Peacemaker: He left, but God has a plan for you.
“How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand.
When I awake, I am still with You.” (Verses17-18)
The Path of a Peacemaker: She left, but God’s thoughts are precious and valuable to you.
“O that You would slay the wicked, O God; depart from me, therefore, men of bloodshed.
For they speak against You wickedly, and Your enemies take Your name in vain.
Do I not hate those who hate You, O Lord? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?
I hate them with the utmost hatred; they have become my enemies.” (Verses19-22)
The Path of a Peacemaker: He left, but God will deal with his sin.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts;
and see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.” (Verses23-24)
The Path of a Peacemaker: She left, but God will lead you in his everlasting way.
I know this is a very difficult time. Give us a call we would love to walk with you through this time. 1-800-711-7118 x701
